Removal of the nitrates
Guarantees 100% removal of all nitrates, low operating cost, energy savings, independent of input water pH.
Principle of functioning:
The device works on the principle of catalytic ion exchange, independent of the pH of the input water. After processing a certain amount of water, the filter cartridge needs to be regenerated. This is done using tablet regeneration salt, which does not require a high water flow or a large quantity of salt. That makes this system more economical than other similar products. In total, this combined solution can save you two to three times more compared to conventional separate systems.
What are nitrates:
Nitrates can be harmful due to their conversion into toxic nitrites, especially for children. The health risk of nitrates (NO₃⁻) lies in their bacterial reduction to nitrites (NO₂⁻) in the digestive tract. In cases of so-called nitrate food methemoglobinemia (DAM) in infants, nitrites react with hemoglobin, converting it into methemoglobin, which is incapable of carrying oxygen.
Limit values: For infant water: up to 15 mg/l. For adults: up to 50 mg/l. Boiling water does not remove nitrates.
Removal of nitrates:
Nitrates are typically removed through ion exchange – nitrate ions are replaced by chloride ions. This method is effective for nitrate concentrations up to approximately 100–120 mg/l. For higher concentrations, reverse osmosis is recommended, as it can reduce nitrate levels from 450 mg/l to 50 mg/l or from 140 mg/l to 15 mg/l – making the water suitable for infants.
